NLMK improves corrosion behaviour of galvanized steel
NLMK has started shipping a new product for the construction and electrical industries: galvanized steel with a more corrosion-resistant and eco-friendly coating.
The thin organic coating is applied to steel after galvanizing and provides a 3-fold corrosion resistance improvement compared to the conventional technology. The effect comes from the anti-corrosive pigments based on chemical compounds that are safer than chromium-based coatings. Additional advantages of the new coating include stronger resistance to stamping and shaping, superior weldability and paintability.
NLMK is planning to produce approximately 100,000 tonnes of the new product per year.
