NLMK Group has always placed great emphasis on promoting sports activities at its sites and in regions where it operates. Company employees have everything needed to exercise and participate in sports regularly. The Group’s companies hold annual sports competitions between teams put together by different shops and departments.

NLMK Group provides regular financial help to youth sports schools and clubs, as well as to athletes. The money is used to support sports facilities such as stadiums, indoor sports arenas, gyms, etc. and buy new sports equipment.
Donations are made to youth sports schools, federations and clubs. In 2014 Novolipetsk provided more than 161.5 million rubles in financial support for sports activities in Lipetsk.

Additionally, the ‘Miloserdiye’ charity fund runs a programme which helps to pay for high-cost surgeries and makes one-off donations to healthcare institutions. For example, the fund donated money to the ‘Svobodny Sokol’ hospital in Lipetsk to invest in equipment used in treating extensive and severe burns.
In 2014 Novolipetsk’s charity fund provided financial help to Lipetsk State Technical University to pay for student internships abroad, and for the faculty to participate in international conferences in Germany and Japan. NLMK Group runs a comprehensive programme designed to help young people receive high-quality education while building a talent pool of creative and technically skilled people.
NLMK Group companies help schools create the right environment for learning and receiving a high-quality education.
They give financial support to schools, childcare facilities and institutions offering extracurricular activities to enable them to make improvements in classrooms, assembly halls and canteens, as well as to buy furniture and office and multimedia equipment.
Novolipetsk has partnered with 72 local schools. More than 9,000 schoolchildren take part in events organised by the plant annually, including meetings with Novolipetsk leadership, visits to the plant, open days, theme quizzes, contests and a research conference named “Introduction to Science”. Schoolchildren also have the opportunity to enrol on special programmes offered by Lipetsk Polytechnic College, Lipetsk Metals College and Lipetsk State Technical University.
Novolipetsk regularly gives awards to Lipetsk schoolchildren who have won regional rounds of national Olympiads in mathematics, physics, chemistry and ecology, as well as to their teachers. In 2015, 37 students of years 9–11 and 33 teachers received gifts and letters of appreciation from the plant’s leadership.Since 2012, Novolipetsk has been undertaking a joint programme with the Education Department of the Lipetsk City Administration. The programme aims to support the physics and mathematics disciplines in Lipetsk schools. Entry into the programme is through competitive selection. The Novolipetsk classes allow schoolchildren to gain a deep knowledge of mathematics, physics and foreign languages, also taking a course entitled ‘Introduction to Metals Industry Professions’ and participating in science competitions and meetings with academic staff from the country’s top universities. Graduates of the Novolipetsk classes are expected to take engineering and technology degrees at leading Russian universities and then be employed by NLMK Group.
The physics and mathematics classes supported by Novolipetsk feature winners of regional rounds of national science Olympiads, competitions held by Russia’s top universities and similar contests, as well as participants of local research conferences.
Graduates of the Novolipetsk classes score high on the unified state exam and enter universities including Moscow State University, MPEI National Research University, Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, D. Mendeleyev University of Chemical Technology of Russia, State Marine Technical University of St Petersburg and others. Seeking to support talented high school students, NLMK Group runs the ‘NLMK Student’ programme which gives graduates of Lipetsk schools scholarships to fund full-time study at top Russian universities.
‘Care, Assistance and Mercy’ provides funds to promote sport and preserve the cultural heritage of Sverdlovsk Region, as well as to provide assistance to veterans and retirees. It has charitable programmes for retirees and veterans of the Second World War, most of whom worked for NLMK Group companies, offering monthly financial help and free medicine, medical equipment and package holidays to health and wellness resorts.
Priority areas of the Foundation:
In particular, funds are allocated to pay for long-term medical treatment, medicine, technical rehab means, trips to resorts and children’s camps and preparation for the beginning of the academic year; as well as other social projects.
"Miloserdiye" foundation has repeatedly won the "Patron of the Year" award, established by the Lipetsk Chamber of Commerce. "Miloserdiye" foundation was twice awarded the "Golden Seal of Merit of the city of Lipetsk”. In 2012, the Foundation was included into the Russian register of socially responsible businesses and organizations. In 2016, the Foundation was commended by the head of Lipetsk regional administration for active participation in solving urgent social problems and the development of charity in the region. In 2017, Sergey Melnik, Chairman of the Presidium of the Foundation, was awarded the Mitrofan Klyuev Municipal Award for his many years of charitable activities.
