NLMK Group promotes industrial healthcare
NLMK Group, a global steel company, has updated its industrial healthcare development strategy. The main objectives of the strategy include the development of the emergency aid system at the Company sites, digitalization of health check-ups, and reduction occupational disease levels.
Emergency aid system
The Company is conducting mass trainings and outfitting its sites with additional medical equipment to enable provision of first aid before the arrival of an ambulance in case of cardiovascular distress or other incidents. Employee trainings are held at mobile simulator centres.
A total of over 200 advanced automated external defibrillators were installed across Group sites. On-site health centres were additionally equipped with electrocardiography devices and mechanical ventilation systems. Staff healthcare workers undergo continuous professional development through specialized courses.
Reduction of occupational disease levels
The Company has updated its programme for management of production exposures that can contribute to hearing and sight diseases. All Group sites have been equipped with eye-washing stations and are enforcing the use of safety goggles. Employees are entitled to custom prevention and treatment programmes to avoid occupational hearing loss and to get trained in proper use of personal hearing protection devices.
The Company continues to outfit its industrial health centres with advanced diagnostic and emergency equipment, and to expand its training programmes for health professionals and other employees.
Electronic pre-shift check-up system
Production sites are being equipped with electronic stations for pre-shift check-ups, with the number of such stations to reach 100 by the end of 2022. These stations take automatic measurements of blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature, and can detect heart arrhythmia, alcoholic or narcotic intoxication. The new system has made the check-ups faster, down from an average of 4 to 5 minutes previously to 70 seconds.
