- The key project is a new Stoilensky-based metals and mining «Green Horizon» facility using the technology of direct reduction of iron, which enables a twofold reduction of CO2 emissions compared to the current technology.
- Optimization of the current process chain – from 2010, coal consumption in Lipetsk has decreased by 2.5 million tonnes per year. Further optimization is possible through the use of alternative materials and improvement of the quality of inputs.
- Innovative projects on CO₂ capture and utilisation.
- Wider use of low-carbon energy.
- Recirculation at the sinter production
Collection and reuse of waste gases for sinter heating – 30-40% reduction of emissions - Water-free slag cooling complex at the blast furnace "Rossiyanka" at the Lipetsk site
Complete elimination of the foul smell of hydrogen sulfide by the production department - Operational measures of coke and by-products plant
Reduction of benzapyrene and phenol emissions - Other capex and opex activities
- Complete elimination of treated domestic water runoff into the water body at the main site in Lipetsk. Effect: a reduction of impact on the water body by 8.2 ktpy; a reduction of river water intake by 7.4 million m3, i.e. by 20%.
- Elimination of effluent discharge from the tailings dump into the Chufichka River at Stoilensky.
- Elimination of industrial effluents at NLMK-Ural
- Investigating options to stop industrial effluents at La Louviere and Clabecq (Belgium)
- 100% – processing of iron-containing secondary raw materials
- 98,9% – recycling of secondary raw materials
